Are you also still confused by all the hype around artificial intelligence (AI) and what it is all about?

Are you struggling with where to start and how all those new topics fit into the SAP ecosystem?

Even many AI skeptics, whom I talk to, are now forced to improve their workflows and systems using AI. But not all problems can be or should be solved by generative AI. For many problems we can still rely on smaller machine learning models. On the SAP Learning site, you can find a lot of very good learning content on classical machine learning (ML), AI, and generative AI to make your way through this AI jungle.

Let me highlight some of the key resources there that can help you get started.

Exploring the world of AI

The first course is called Exploring the world of AI where you will get a good understanding of AI and Machine Learning with helpful hands-on examples. If you are a gamer you will enjoy the examples – I promise! You will also learn about different learning techniques such as supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning, and you get a basic understanding of neural networks.

On a side note: a special type of neural network architecture called a transformer is the foundation for large language models (LLMs). The most famous example of an LLM is the model behind ChatGPT.

Generative AI at SAP

If you are new to the topic of AI, you should check out the second course called Generative AI at SAP. I have observed that a lot of people either overestimate generative AI and think current LLMs will solve all our problems, or they underestimate LLMs because of a couple of wrong responses they received when chatting with a model. If you want to successfully incorporate AI into your business processes, it is important to understand what LLMs are capable of and where their downfalls are. This course will certainly clear up some of the question marks you might have.

Exploring the SAP Business AI Portfolio

The free, self-paced learning journey Exploring the SAP Business AI Portfolio is the third resource I can highly recommend. Throughout my travels I have met a lot of people with different roles in the SAP ecosystem and one question I almost always face is: “What is the difference between Joule and Generative AI Hub?“

The short answer is: Joule is our AI assistant, embedded in our portfolio and Generative AI Hub is part of our AI solution portfolio (AI Foundation) and gives you a set of tools to build your own generative AI use cases. Whenever Joule or any other generative AI use case at SAP sends a request to an LLM it goes through Generative AI Hub because that is the easiest and safest way to use LLMs in the SAP landscape. This learning journey will give you a better understanding of what SAP offers in AI.

Putting AI Ethics into Practice at SAP

My last recommendation here is the learning journey Putting AI Ethics into Practice at SAP. At SAP the trust of our partners and customers is of utmost importance. This learning journey focuses on how we at SAP are embedding AI into our portfolio by always ensuring our solutions are relevant, reliable, and responsible. This learning journey covers everything about SAP’s Global AI Ethics Framework, our guiding principles for AI ethics and our AI ethics assessment process.

Additional Developer Content

If you are a developer and you are looking for hands-on material, more technical explanations and example code, then you should stop by our SAP Developers YouTube channel! Here you can find live streams, video tutorials, an SAP AI playlist and all the sessions of Devtoberfest. For real in-person hands-on sessions, check out the free upcoming SAP CodeJam events near you or host your own SAP CodeJam. You pick the topic; we provide the expert and the system. You can pick between a variety of topics, including three ML and AI CodeJams on machine learning on SAP HANA, generative AI and CAP, and Generative AI Hub and Python.

Let me know what YOU struggle with when it comes to AI and especially AI at SAP! We will do our best to answer your questions and point you to the right learning materials. Also, I’d love to know which of the four learning resources you enjoyed the most and what your biggest learning was. My highlight was to refresh my knowledge on reinforcement learning with the practical examples given in the course Exploring the world of AI.

I look forward to hearing from you!
